Squareenix, the makers of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts brings us The World Ends With You.
It was released on 22nd of April, 2008. The game tells you about Neku Sakuraba, a 15 year old boy who believes that he didn't need friends or anyone to help him achieve his goal and to have a happy life. One day, he wakes up in Shibuya, a busy shopping district in Tokyo, Japan. No one seems to see or feel him, he then receives a text message on his phone saying his first mission and there is a timer engraved in his palm, if he fails the mission, he will fail to exist.
The fighting system has the innovative Stride-Cross Battle System allows players to control two characters simultaneously, unleashing special attacks with the stylus. The usage of special pins which acts as your "skills" or "techniques", the pins has special psychic abilities which lets Neku to burn enemies, freeze them, drag cars and throw at the enemies. And the option to control your partner on the top part of the screen, using the buttons or the D-pad and control Neku using the stylus, all at the same time in real time. Sounds hard? Not really, for I have finished the game itself, the game has in game instructions which really helps how things turn around.
You can also customize your characters equipments by buying fashion clothes in shopping centers, the thing you wear actually affect on how strong you are and your enemies called "Noise". The game also have the original Japanese soundtrack which is great and catchy and the USA version also added some English hip hop version of the songs. Like most of the games, there are many unlockables present in the game during and after you finish the game. There is also a mini game called the Tin Pin slammer which is amusing.
The game play is very interesting, the story is extra ordinary and is a must have for every DS owners. Squareenix has done it again!
